Kentucky Official Background Checks
Kentucky's practical public name-based product is the AOC FastCheck and One-Time Request service. It covers District and Circuit Court activity from all 120 counties. KOOL warns that data newer than 120 days may not be final. Its generalized offense category aids searching and is not necessarily the exact crime. Sealed, Expunged, and Restricted Records
Kentucky uses the term expungement. A qualifying applicant first obtains an AOC eligibility certification. The certification costs $40 and can be ordered online, in person at the AOC Records Unit in Frankfort, or by mail. The packet then goes with the correct petition to the Office of Circuit Court Clerk where the original charge was filed.
An eligible felony process has a separate $300 fee, including a nonrefundable $50 filing payment and $250 after relief is granted. Kentucky also automatically expunges qualifying nontraffic cases dismissed with prejudice or ending in acquittal on or after July 15, 2020, following the applicable 30-day period. Juvenile cases, confidential mental-health and domestic-violence matters, and protected identifiers face separate limits.
A missing search result does not prove an event never occurred. Expungement, confidentiality, retention, a spelling mismatch, or a record held outside the court system may explain the gap.
Boyd County Expungement Certification
The online path starts with an AOC account and verified email. Complete the certification request, pay the current certification fee, wait for notice, then sign in and download the packet. File the packet and petition with the proper Boyd County clerk if the charge arose here. Mail users send form AOC-RU-009 and payment to the AOC Records Unit in Frankfort.
For an eligible felony, the prosecutor has 60 days to object. An objection leads to a hearing; without one, the court may rule on the papers. Relief is not complete until the post-grant balance is paid. A felony charge held to a grand jury but never indicted follows a different route and waiting period.
